A critical component of real-time data services is a database capable of handling massive amounts of data efficiently. Genscape's patented technology collects power supply information using a network of remote, wireless devices to monitor multiple points on the transmission grid.

The Challenge: Large Scale Data Collection and Dispersion

As the leading provider of energy information for commodity and financial markets, Genscape provide real-time power supply information to support decision making for power marketers, regulators, utilities, distributors, and other energy market participants. They are tasked with providing accurate, timely data on capacities, flow and utilization for energy commodities to customers who expect high-impact, fundamentals-based market intelligence. The NatGas RT Project was designed to provide real-time power and natural gas supply info for the energy market with a service that collects and combines public and proprietary data on the Natural Gas market. It also offers event monitoring, compressor station status and storage injection/withdrawal data.

The Solution: EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus Advanced Server

Genscape selected Advanced Server for three primary reasons. It offered tremendous scalability with its ability to handle high transaction throughput loads. Postgres Plus Advanced Server also proved to be compatible with their existing database infrastructure and enabled them to leverage the existing skills of their staff with a fast learning curve. Finally, Genscape would realize significant cost reductions replacing a higher cost commercial product with an enterprise-class open source database.
