Robert's vision for this program is rooted in his conversations with experienced PostgreSQL developers. He discovered a common thread: support, encouragement, and meaningful, positive feedback played a crucial role in their perseverance and success. Whether it was validation of their work, support for a major patch, or an unexpected promotion to committer, these interactions were pivotal in their journey.
“What I'm hoping is that an effort like this can help increase the chances of such positive interactions, and maybe create opportunities for new types of positive interactions that will also make people feel supported on their PostgreSQL hacking journey.” Robert shared in the announcement.
We know this program will be an important step in fostering a more inclusive and supportive community for PostgreSQL developers. Without the dedicated community of PostgreSQL code contributors, Postgres would not be the most loved and used database around the world.
Continuing to grow and foster this community is essential for the continued growth and success of Postgres. Thanks to Robert for leading the way and taking on this important initiative.
