Postgres deployments on Kubernetes have the power to accelerate application development and modernization for next-generation workloads. At EDB, we’ve long championed this synergy, driving innovation and supporting open-source initiatives that bring these foundational technologies together. Today, we’re excited to highlight the contributions of EDB’s Jonathan Battiato and Danish Khan, who have been selected as new Data on Kubernetes Community Ambassadors. EDB is proud to now have three ambassadors on board, including Gabriele Bartolini, as a recognition of our leadership in this space.

The Data on Kubernetes (DoK) Community, established in 2020, aims to accelerate the adoption of Kubernetes for stateful and data workloads. In other words, it promotes using Kubernetes for applications that require data retention and consistent information management, along with complex data processing, storage, and retrieval tasks. With resources for both Kubernetes veterans and beginners alike, the DoK Community brings together users to share knowledge, address challenges, and explore the potential of running data-centric applications on Kubernetes.

The DoK Community Ambassador Program acknowledges individuals who actively engage in activities, empowering them to contribute more significantly by taking part in community projects, speaking at industry events, and publishing content. We are proud to see Jonathan and Danish’s new roles enhancing EDB’s contributions to the DoK Community.

At EDB, our commitment to streamlining Postgres deployments on Kubernetes is reflected in our key workloads. CloudNativePG, a production-ready Kubernetes operator originally created by EDB and open sourced in May 2022, automates the deployment and management of Postgres. Building on that, the new EDB Postgres Distributed for Kubernetes (PGD4K) expands CloudNativePG’s capabilities and offers high availability across multiple Kubernetes clusters. This solution simplifies PostgreSQL management in cloud-native settings, helping organizations fully leverage Kubernetes with automated deployment and scaling, geo-distributed and active-active architectures, advanced durability and observability operations, and beyond.

The relationship between the database and Kubernetes communities is crucial for compatibility and seamless integration, and EDB’s involvement in the DoK Community underscores our commitment to making PostgreSQL and Kubernetes work better together. Danish Khan captures the essence of this collaborative effort: “Being part of the Data on Kubernetes Community is an incredible opportunity. It’s about more than just sharing our knowledge; it’s about learning from others and working together to solve challenges. This community embodies the spirit of innovation and collaboration, and I’m excited to contribute to its growth.”
