KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2024 isn’t just another tech conference. For anyone immersed in the world of cloud-native, it’s where the biggest ideas in Kubernetes, open source, and data converge. This November, we’re excited to be part of the event in Salt Lake City from November 12-15, digging into the latest innovations, sharing insights, and connecting with the community driving it all forward.
Kicking Things Off with Data on Kubernetes Day
We’re especially excited for Data on Kubernetes (DoK) Day on November 12—a full day dedicated to all things Kubernetes and data. As more organizations turn to Kubernetes for the scalability, resilience, and flexibility it brings, DoK has grown into a thriving community for those tackling stateful workloads in the cloud. Data on Kubernetes Day is where real-world challenges and solutions take center stage, with experts sharing best practices, new use cases, and ideas on Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS). This year’s DoK Day promises to dive into the latest advancements, with insights into everything from AI to complex data applications.
EDB is proud to have three team members–Jonathan Battiato, Danish Khan, and Gabriele Bartolini–as current Data on Kubernetes Community Ambassadors. These ambassador roles reflect our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with Postgres in Kubernetes and to supporting the open source community that makes it all happen.
EDB’s Vision for Postgres on Kubernetes
For anyone wondering how Postgres fits into Kubernetes, it’s worth looking at how Kubernetes has transformed data handling in recent years. Initially, there was skepticism about whether Kubernetes could support stateful workloads like databases. But with advances in storage, operator technology, and community-driven projects like CloudNativePG, Kubernetes has become a powerful platform for applications that rely on persistent data. At EDB, we believe that combining Postgres with Kubernetes can unlock new levels of productivity, speed, and flexibility in modern applications—and we’re committed to making that integration as seamless as possible.
Our CloudNativePG operator, which we open sourced in 2022, has already become the world’s top Postgres operator for Kubernetes, with over 4,600 GitHub stars at present. CloudNativePG was built to help organizations manage Postgres clusters in Kubernetes with ease, offering critical features like high availability, automated failover, and point-in-time recovery. Back in April, we also launched EDB Postgres Distributed for Kubernetes (PGD4K) to extend these capabilities even further. PGD4K enables multi-cluster high availability, active-active architectures, and enhanced observability, making it easier to manage Postgres for demanding, geo-distributed applications.
Don’t Miss “The Future of DBaaS on Kubernetes” Panel
Another big moment for EDB at KubeCon will be “The Future of DBaaS on Kubernetes” panel on November 13 at 11:15 am MST. In this session, Gabriele Bartolini, EDB’s VP of Cloud Native, will join leaders from Constantia, Percona, and PlanetScale to discuss how DBaaS on Kubernetes is evolving and why it’s becoming so valuable. The panel will cover real-world experiences, lessons learned, and best practices for deploying and managing DBaaS on Kubernetes.
Some of the topics you can expect from this session:
- AI and DBaaS: How artificial intelligence is starting to shape DBaaS management on Kubernetes (for instance, the role of automation, self-healing clusters, and predictive analytics).
- Common Pitfalls: This discussion will highlight the most common missteps to avoid, from resource misconfigurations to security gaps.
- Real-World Success Stories: Hearing what worked (and what didn’t) from organizations already running DBaaS on Kubernetes brings invaluable insights for anyone managing or considering Kubernetes for database workloads.
Why CloudNativePG is Key for Postgres in Kubernetes
For those building the next generation of applications, Postgres in Kubernetes opens up unique possibilities. CloudNativePG allows organizations to deploy and scale Postgres in a way that’s fully aligned with Kubernetes principles. Its design integrates directly with Kubernetes, making it highly adaptable to the diverse needs of cloud-native applications.
By combining Kubernetes’ built-in capabilities with Postgres, organizations gain flexibility without sacrificing reliability or performance. CloudNativePG supports critical functions like automated failover, continuous backup, and rolling updates, simplifying database management in complex, distributed environments. And with new enhancements—like advanced backup capabilities and volume snapshot functionality—CloudNativePG is more equipped than ever to meet the demands of modern data workloads.
Connect with EDB at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon 2024
As we look ahead to KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2024, we’re excited to connect with developers, architects, and cloud-native enthusiasts who are just as passionate about Kubernetes and Postgres as we are. We’ll be sharing what we’ve learned, listening to your experiences, and exploring new ways to make Postgres an even better fit for cloud-native ecosystems.
