The Next Frontiers for Postgres and AI - Key Insights from the Data Innovation Summit

May 01, 2024

What comes next for Postgres, as the world of data moves faster than ever into AI and machine learning? Questions like this were top of mind at the Data and AI Innovation Summit 2024 in Stockholm this year. EDB attended, spoke, and sponsored the Data and AI Innovation Summit, as part of our commitment to sharing our Postgres knowledge and insights at events around the world

This year’s event focused on AI and machine learning, getting value from data, assuring data quality and the cross-functional collaboration that is needed to align data and technology to achieve business value. Industry leaders in data, AI, analytics, data quality, and data security presented to over 3000 attendees. Presentations ranged from Machine Learning to Data Quality, as well as Modern Data Platforms and Applied and Responsible AI.

The summit was dominated by AI, which was ever present as a technology to gain insight, to provide assistance, and to generate new outcomes. However, themes of data quality, cross-functional collaboration, compliance, and change management were not neglected. Especially the keynotes on the main stage made it clear that AI is not just a technology play. Value cannot be created without quality, process, and people.

EDB presented on the Database and Data Quality stage. EDB Technical Fellow Marc Linster Ph.D. discussed the next frontiers for Postgres, the most loved, most wanted and most used database in front of a full house. The talk discussed questions: Why does the world love Postgres?; What are the criteria to use when you chose a database solution for a modern application?; What comes next for Postgres?

EDB’s sales engineering team had prepared three fitting demos: ‘Always on Postgres with Best-in-Class High Availability & Scalability’, ‘Using Kubernetes to Streamline Deployment in the Cloud at Scale’ and ‘Using Postgres to Create an AI-based image Recognition Solution’.

We were proud to see that the demos got a lot of positive attention. The audience clearly understood the potential of using Postgres as an all-encompassing solution for transactions, documents, geolocation, and AI inferences, while also enabling high availability on every cloud platform.

EDB’s presence drew a lot of positive reactions, as “Postgres is everywhere”, according to the attendees. Postgres-based AI and analytic solutions, as demoed at EDB’s booth and revealed in the same-day article “EDB Puts Postgres in the Middle of Analytics Workflow with New Lakehouse Stack” in Datanami, prove that Postgres absolutely has the potential to be the enterprise data platform of the future.
