This month, four of our EDB Postgres experts will be giving presentations at Swiss PGDay 2024, June 27th and 28th at the Campus Rapperswil in Switzerland. Thursday, 27th June

Keynote: The Past and the Future of the Postgres Community 

Speaker: Tomas Vondra, Senior Principal Engineer 


Kicking off our EDB presentations, Senior Principal Engineer Tomas Vondra will provide a historical overview of the Postgres community, discussing its origins, evolution, and future directions. Presentation: Bringing Vectors to Postgres with pgvector 

Speaker: Gulcin Yildirim Jelinek, Staff Engineer at EDB

Following Tomas, EDB Staff Engineer Gulcin Yildirim Jelinek will give a talk on pgvector, an extension designed to bring vector capabilities to Postgres. This presentation will cover the creation and storage of vector embeddings in Postgres, indexing, and running similarity queries. Presentation: Window Functions Are Easier and More Powerful Than You Think 

Speaker: Vik Fearing, Postgres Expert 


Concluding Thursday’s sessions, EDB Postgres Expert Vik Fearing will demystify window functions, demonstrating their simplicity and power. The presentation will cover basic concepts, frame specifications, and advanced options, showcasing how window functions can simplify application processing. 

 

Friday, 28th June 

Presentation: Unleashing the Power of Postgres in Kubernetes 

Speaker: Gabriele Bartolini, Vice President of Cloud Native at EDB

On Friday, EDB Vice President of Cloud Native Gabriele Bartolini will give a talk on the integration of Postgres databases within Kubernetes environments. This session will address the challenges faced by Database Administrators (DBAs) and offer practical solutions through CloudNativePG, an open-source operator for Postgres workloads. Attendees will gain valuable insights into deploying Postgres within Kubernetes and the transformative impact of this integration on database management.
