Previewing EDB’s booth demos at KubeCon
KubeCon Europe is right around the corner, and EDB is bringing its team of Postgres techies and Kubernetes heavyweights to London to share insights, demonstrate cutting-edge capabilities, and engage with the broader Kubernetes community. As PostgreSQL leaders, we’re on a mission to bridge the gap between Kubernetes and database expertise, and our presence at KubeCon is a key part of that effort.
Keep reading this blog for a preview of the demos we’lll be sharing at our booth at KubeCon (N630). EDB is also proud to have our experts participating in three informative and insightful sessions at KubeCon Europe. Plus we’ll be giving a keynote at Data on Kubernetes day. Follow this link for a preview of those sessions and talks.
As a leading contributor to PostgreSQL and the creator of the most widely adopted Kubernetes operator for PostgreSQL, EDB continues to set the standard for open source and enterprise innovation.
“Many KubeCon attendees already use CloudNativePG, but they don’t necessarily know that EDB is behind it. We want them to know we’re here to help.” - EDB Principal Engineer Leonardo Cecchi
CloudNativePG’s acceptance into the CNCF Sandbox reinforces EDB’s leadership in the Kubernetes ecosystem and its commitment to a sovereign, AI-powered data future. Now the most popular PostgreSQL operator for Kubernetes on GitHub (5,000 stars and counting), CloudNativePG is making data on Kubernetes synonymous with modern data strategy for enterprises everywhere.
Connecting with the Kubernetes community
When asked to compare PostgreSQL conferences to KubeCons, EDB Senior SDE Jonathan Battiato had this to say: “KubeCon is a completely different scale from PostgreSQL conferences. PGConf has hundreds of attendees, while KubeCon draws tens of thousands.”
But the key difference here is actually not about numbers—it’s about the audience. “At PGConf, people know PostgreSQL but not Kubernetes. At KubeCon, it’s the opposite,” explains EDB Senior SDE Francesco Canovai. “That’s why it’s important for us to be at both events.”
Our goal is to show the Kubernetes community how PostgreSQL can seamlessly integrate with their cloud-native workflows and to highlight the innovative work EDB is doing to enhance Kubernetes-native database operations.
Of course, EDB is no stranger to KubeCon. We’ve attended and presented at many Kubernetes and DoK events throughout the years. Here are a few favorite photos from KubeCons of years past.
Live demos: Discover what EDB is building with Postgres and Kubernetes
At EDB, we are very excited to demonstrate exciting new capabilities with Postgres, Kubernetes, and CloudNativePG. It’s not every day that we get to gather together with thousands of Kubernetes enthusiasts. If you come to our booth at KubeCon (N630), you’ll get to see cutting edge innovations from EDB firsthand. Our team will be showcasing hands-on demos covering key PostgreSQL-Kubernetes integrations.
Here’s a preview of what you can expect:
Simplifying PostgreSQL Backups and Failover
Dive into data durability and recoverability in CloudNativePG deployments with Senior Staff SDE Francesco Canovai. Francesco will be walking attendees through foundational backup and restore processes in a live interactive demo at the EDB booth. “People often come to the booth with questions about how we manage backups and failovers across multiple clusters,” he explains. “Our demos are a way to spark those conversations and answer questions in real time.”
Volume Group Snapshots & Kubernetes Storage Expertise
He’s well known for his deep expertise in Kubernetes storage, and this year EDB Principal Engineer Leonardo Cecchi will be showcasing advanced storage solutions, particularly volume group snapshots, at KubeCon Europe. “My demo highlights what we’re doing on the Kubernetes side, why it’s useful for CloudNativePG, and how we contribute back to the community,” he explains. As a recognized expert in Kubernetes storage, Leo’s demo a must-see for those interested in persistent storage challenges in Kubernetes environments.
One-Line PostgreSQL Upgrades
Ready for a seamless PostgreSQL upgrade process? EDB Senior Principal Engineer Marco Nenciarini is bringing a game-changing feature to the table: One-Line PostgreSQL Upgrades. “Users have been asking for an easier way to upgrade PostgreSQL since the start,” he says. “We’re introducing a new feature where you can upgrade just by changing one line in the configuration.” His demo will showcase this capability in action, including robust rollback mechanisms to ensure data integrity.
Dynamic, Adaptive Permissions in Kubernetes
Discover the latest advancements in permissions management on OpenShift for EDB Postgres for Kubernetes. EDB Senior Staff SDE Jonathan Gonzalez will be discussing Kubernetes permission structures. “My approach is always audience-driven,” he says. “Sometimes I get OpenShift users, sometimes Rancher users—so I adapt my demo based on their needs.” His session will provide practical insights into managing access control in Kubernetes-native PostgreSQL deployments.
Migrating your PostgreSQL databases inside Kubernetes
If you are considering migrating your PostgreSQL database from a service provider into Kubernetes, but you’re worried about downtime, EDB VP, Chief Architect Gabriele Bartolini has your answer in his demo: Migrating your PostgreSQL databases inside Kubernetes. See how to seamlessly leverage CloudNativePG and logical replication to migrate to Kubernetes from any PostgreSQL 10+. The same technique can be used to perform major online upgrades.
Beyond the Demos: Engaging with the Kubernetes Community
As much as our demos will showcase technical innovations, they’re also a launchpad for deeper discussions. “Most people don’t just come for the demo,” says Francesco. “They come because they want to ask questions, and our experts are here to provide answers and insights.”
That’s really EDB’s entire goal at KubeCon—engagement, knowledge-sharing, and an opportunity to connect with Kubernetes users who are looking to integrate PostgreSQL into their stack. “Many KubeCon attendees already use CloudNativePG,” Leonardo notes, “but they don’t necessarily know that EDB is behind it. We want them to know we’re here to help.”
